Current Initiatives

IT Transformation
The Commonwealth is currently engaged in an ambitious effort to transform the management of information technology through shared services and best practices. IT Transformation is significantly improving government efficiency, effectiveness, responsiveness and agility. One of the most important elements of this initiative is IT Consolidation
Kentucky Enterprise Data Architecture
Although often used tactically, data is a strategic resource owned by the entire Commonwealth. To transition from a tactical to a strategic approach in the use of its data resources, the Commonwealth is changing its views on data ownership and access. The Kentucky Enterprise Data Architecture (KEDA) project is creating an environment that promotes data integration, eliminates data duplication, decreases the cost of maintaining data, and establishes a framework to support strategic business initiatives.
Kentucky Emergency Warning System (KEWS) Upgrading to Digital
The Kentucky Emergency Warning System (KEWS), an analog microwave system spanning the state, is being upgraded to a digital system by the Commonwealth Office of Technology (COT). The new digital system will be an IP-based network using Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology over Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET) microwave transport.
Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO)
COT established the EPMO to manage IT projects effectively and promote a culture that encourages increased discipline in project management activities. The EPMO acts as a center of expertise for project management in state government, and enhances Kentucky's project management capabilities.
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
COT is in the process of implementing ITIL which is a framework of best practice approaches intended to facilitate the delivery of high quality information technology services.
